The Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers was founded in 1975 following three meetings in the Broadwater Parish Rooms arranged by John Rea, Andrew Breese and the late Bert Perriman who decided to establish whether there was sufficient interest to form a society. The result was positive and an inaugural meeting of the Society took place when Alan Norman and Charles Weatherly also became founding members.
The Field Place Clubhouse was constructed in 1992 with considerable help from students at Chichester College. Improvements have taken place steadily ever since, the latest being the construction last year of a disabled access.
The Society has approximately 100 members and new members are always welcome. It is not necessary to have any engineering expertise to become a member; there is always help and advice available for those who wish to learn.
